11.07.09 Azzuri Slip In To Tie For First, Fall to Union, 1-0
The Azzuri faced off against second place Union FC at Jordan Middle School in Palo Alto, and could not overcome a first minute "slippery" goal that trickled into the goal, and fell into a first place tie with Union heading into the last weekend of play.
Union struck in the first 40 seconds of the game when a cross into the box was re-directed towards the corner of the goal, but a very slick surface made the soft re-direct a slippery snake that found its way into the back of the net, and an early 1-0 deficit for the Ladies in Blue.
The rest of the half, and the game for that matter, were essentially even as the two squads battled back and forth, to no avail. Union outshot Azzuri 10-8 for the game, but neither side could muster many quality opportunities as the defenses for each club were stout.
Union, the defending Fall league champions, regained a share of first place with the Azzuri by virtue of the victory, as the two teams enter the last week of league play---where Azzuri will face off against OV Chaos and Union will battle SC Sporting.

The Azzuri moved to 6-2-1 in Fall Abronzino action.
