In a solid effort from start to finish, the Ladies in Blue downed the Sunnyvale Alliance Extreme, 2-0, at Crestview Field in their "home opener" of the 2009 D2 Spring League.

The Azzuri midfield and forwards controlled the action virtually all game, leading to constant pressue on the Extreme defense...the pressure yielded a foul against Soha in the box about midway through the first half---she converted the PK for a 1-0 halftime Azzuri lead...

The second half saw more pressure from the Azzuri offense and a defense that continued to stifle the Extreme, who brought a number of their players up from the back to try and get on to the scoreboard....the Azzuri defense held firm and sparked several counters and more scoring chances...Mari's free kick into the box, after an Extreme foul, set up Soha for her second goal and the defense did the rest as the Azzuri held on for the 2-0 victory.

Lauren, with help from her Secretaries of Defense, recorded her 19th Azzuri career shutout, 11th in league play (fall or spring)....
